Matt Libber was born in the Highlandtown neighborhood before moving to Perry Hall early in his life. He attended Perry Hall and Joppa View Elementary Schools and Perry Hall Middle School. Matt attended Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore where he was a three sport athlete and active in many clubs and student government. He went on to attend McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) where he earned his degree in Political Science and History while playing lacrosse. Matt later attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where he earned a Masters Degree in Sports Industry Management.
After graduating from McDaniel, Matt worked for Impact Innovations Group as a government IT contractor and ultimately lead a project that oversaw the help desk for the United State Postal Service. Matt later worked at Cirdan Group where he was a contactor with the State of Maryland assigned to the Maryland State Board of Elections. In addition to his more traditional jobs, Matt - with his brother, Mike - started a sports event Management Company (Elite Tournaments) based in Howard County, Maryland. As Elite Tournaments prospered, Matt left his position with the Board of Elections and joined Elite Tournaments full-time as the Vice President of Business Operations. After almost 20 years at Elite Tournaments, Matt stepped away from the still growing business to take on a new challenge as the Executive Director of the Maryland SoccerPlex in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Matt is very active in the community and the sports tourism business. He has served - and is currently serving - on numerous Boards, including The American Red Cross of Central Maryland, The Archbishop Curley HS School Board and Alumni Association, The Sport and Entertainment Corporation of Maryland, Maryland Tourism Coalition where he is the Chairman of the Legislative Committee, Visit Montgomery, Visit Harford County, Maryland State Youth Soccer, and the Baltimore 2026 FIFA World Cup Host Committee.
Matt currently resides in Howard County with his wife, Jessica, and their two dogs, Bentley and MacKenzie.
Matt supports a Constitutional amendment to put term limits on both Representatives and Senators. Being in Congress should not be a career. Continually running for office means our elected officials are more focused on being re-elected and less focused on doing the business of the people they were elected to serve.
Immigration Reform has been a political football for more than three decades. It appears that no one wants to find a solution but would rather keep arguing about it as a campaign issue. We need a full overhaul of the system. This includes tougher border security, clear pathways to citizenships, resolution to DACA, and changes to the Visa system quotas and lottery.
Matt supports a Constitutional amendment enshrining the right to an abortion. Reproductive rights are medical decisions between a person and their doctor - not the government.
The rhetoric is spiraling out of control and citizens have lost faith in our institutions. Elected officials are not sent to Washington D.C. to fight for their party; they are sent to fight for their constituents. It is not supposed to be a political game to see what party wins. Every policy and every bill must be evaluated on the merits - not which party proposed it.
The United States has not had a balanced budget or surplus budget since 2001. The continual deficit spending is a threat to our National Security needs to be controlled. This means that every program must be on the table when balancing the budget - including military spending, social security, and every other department and agency. We must also account for deficit reduction in the budget.
The current tax code is unnecessarily confusing and complex. An overhaul of the US Tax Code is long overdue. The average taxpayer needs a simplified system to determine their tax liability. Corporate loopholes must be closed to stop billion dollar companies from effectively paying zero taxes. Enforcement of the tax code needs to be strengthened to provide a fair and equitable tax system.
The reality of climate change is not up for debate. Human progress has had a negative effect on the health of our natural environment. We must work to protect our natural resources, transition to clean energy, and ensure that future generations do not pay the consequences of our inaction. Solutions must involve business community buy-in to work; there has to be a carrot to go along with the stick.
